Cell Phones Then Vs Now

The communication device known as the cellular phone or "cell phone" for short has been around for over 30 years. This device was created by Inventor Martin Cooper in 1983 and was made to replace the home phone so people could still communicate with each other while on the go. The Cell Phone has come a long way since inception; today we'll be looking at the Cell Phone back then straight up to now.

Cell Phones ... Then

Size
The devices back then were hardly "mobile" or "portable" as they were so big they looked like a hybrid of an over-sized walkie talkie or a small Radio with the antenna sticking out. Not only were they big, but they were heavy. I somewhat remember seeing one my Grandmother owned and it was heavy, I remember she had a small briefcase she used to store it. Back then, this device used to be called "The Brick". See photo below

Purpose

In the 80's, the only purpose of the cell phone was to make and receive calls. In those days, people actually thought it was strange to communicate this way as opposed to face to face. There were no Texts , I'm's or any other settings.

Talk Time

Cellphones back then would only last from 1 - 4 hours (when the Nokia came about ) and had a standby time of up to 8 hours.

Cell Phones ... Now

Size
Today, Cell Phones are much smaller and lighter. They can be carried in your hands ( if you so desire) or in your pockets or any place you choose to carry it.

Purpose
Today , Cell Phones are more than just that. Not only are you able to make and receive calls , but you are now able to send texts , check your e-mails , play games , take photos and the list goes on.

Talk Time

Up to 8 hours! That's an entire day at work and them some ( depending on how long your conversations are ) The standby time is up to 250 hours ( Apple ).

In conclusion, Cell Phones have come a looooong way. This is one of the examples of how our society has grown and evolved to suit the "changing times " and to also facilitate the needs of the people of this generation. It can be easily agreed that if it wasn't for those bulky devices back then, we wouldn't have the sleek designs of the smart phone that we all cannot live without.
